Journalism vs. the Internet > the change > Credibility > Propaganda > Censorship
Back to Christian's really lame Index page

Unlike the television the Internet is rarely censored. The Internet is seen as too artistic and not as easily accessible to all so naturally it doesn't matter what you put on your website as long as it is not illegal and you are paying for it. The television and especially print in newspapers are not given as much lee-way as opposed to the Internet because they are both to prevalent and people hold them under higher standards because of the credibility aspect.

Much of the news today is being censored by our governments and the radical right wing party. In Iraq the AlQaeda network shows propaganda and possible ways to fight the government all over the world over the Internet and television. In Lebanon over the summer, Hezbola censored the war and how people feared them. Hezbola showed old women crying, dead bodies, and burning of flags. This propaganda supported the Hezbola troops and made them more fierce/praised. During the Gulf War many army troops who did not support the war were not shown on televisions for their families. Many leaders much like Richard Nixon wanted to censor the news who did not support the cabinet or the Vietnam War and even “threatened” reporters like Marvin Kalb to “lay off.”

Today it is not as bad but “Fahrenheit 9/11” done by Roger Moore, who is not a reporter, was still censored by the Bush administration. Though many people like Moore's movie many can not give him the time of day because he is not an actual reporter. He found a lot of facts, pushed them together, and threw his movie on top of the Anti-Bush bandwagon. February 2007 the Mayor of Boston expressed his wishes to not carry the “Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie” in the cities theaters because of a “bomb” scare that turned out to be a marketing ploy by Turner Broadcasting. He can not outlaw the movie but he asked that the theaters not carry it anyways. Censorship can only lead to watered downed news. Censorship will always be around as long as someone in power does not agree with what is being seen, heard, or written. The Internet helps us solve the problem of censorship. You can post almost anything you would like on the Internet when you can not do so in real life.
