Welcome to My CSS Page
George Mason University is a pioneer in history on the Web as evidenced at the Center for History and New Media. At GMU two of the main requirements for earning a PhD in history are courses called Clio Wired and Clio II. Both these courses concern how the Web has impacted the teaching and learning of history. In Clio Wired, we focus on the theory of web design, evaluate the effectiveness of websites, and propose a history project of our own for the web. In Clio II, we begin in earnest to design (and redesign, and redesign) our websites as we forge headlong into history on the web.
The Clio II Syllabus designed by Dr. Paula Petrik provides an overview of our course requirements, assignments, and mission for our journey into history on the web... and beyond....
We can learn from history how past generations thought and acted, how they responded to the demands of their time and how they solved their problems. We can learn by analogy, not by example, for our circumstances will always be different than theirs were. The main thing history can teach us is that human actions have consequences and that certain choices, once made, cannot be undone. They foreclose the possibility of making other choices and thus they determine future events. Gerda Lerner
Many of my collegues are advanced in the art of web styling and creation and have minors in the field of New Media. This is hardly true for ME! This current page was developed to fulfill the CSS page requirement of the course. It took three tries before I got it right,if you can call this right. I have had no experience with a web page programme in the past (we are using Dreamweaver) and have no training in web page design. I find the entire experience rather humbling, however my love of learning and interest in accomplishing the goal of being proficient in this field presses me on. As this is my first attempt at creating a website of my own to host academic projects, I am interested in your comments and suggestions, providing they are constructive and decent.
