Websites

A brief overview of the Brotherhood, themes and various artists within the group. Some links do not work, but this site is a good, quick starting place.

An academic site that compiles criticism of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood written by their contemporaries, with reviews available to read in full-text versions. The site also contains examples of parodies of Pre-Raphaelite painting and audio files of Pre-Raphaelite poetry read aloud. The only downside is that the site has not been updated since February 2005.

A hypermedia research archive of the complete writings and paintings of Dante Gabriel Rossetti, maintained by the Institute for Advanced Technology in the Humanities at the University of Virginia.

A website containing many galleries of Pre-Raphaelite and Symbolist art, much if it not well-known. The site also maintains a list of current and upcoming Pre-Raphaelite museum exhibitions around the country and world.

Arizona State University's annotated catalogue of rare books and manuscripts by and about the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood from the special collections department.

A site dedicated to the Pre-Raphaelites, the Romantics and the Bloomsbury Group, maintained and written by Meg Wise-Lawrence.

There are pages dedicated to artists, the models, and the writers, along with the author's thoughts on the Victorian drug scene, the dangers of childbirth, the mysterious sicknesses of Victorian women, and so on.

Very interesting, but definitely not an academic site.

A collection of essays about Dante Gabriel Rossetti and themes related to his work, such as the image of women in literature and art, theoretical work about "Ways of Seeing" and "the Gaze," the Madonna, and the femme fatale, maintained by a professor at Pittsburg State University.

The site contains a page with a good set of questions to orient students to ways of thinking about the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, especially as it concerns women.
