| "They
are becoming the next chapter of "Nazism" in their own repulsive,
shocking way. Their power cannot be stopped until it's overthrown
by a force greater than the hatred that has filled their selfish minds
and the authority-figures' hand that so gratefully fed them the
poisonous apple." -An excerpt from my "Taking on Hirsch's Point of View" |
| The assingment that I feel I could "unpack" the best is my second integrative project. I chose this assignment because I constructed it in a completely different way than all of the other assignments. In this project we were asked to pick an author as our main theorist and write from their point of view, and to choose at least two additional theorists to briefly refer to. Besides writing in another person's point of view we had to apply two concepts and use one of the primary sources that we had used previously in the course. At first I thought this was going to be a difficult task but it ended up being one of the easiest, most fun writings that I've ever done. |
| When I first started writing this paper, I was stuck from the very beginning. I had no idea how I was supposed to write from someone else's point of view. I was unsure of how I was going to think like someone else and write about a topic through their eyes. I hesitantly started with a journal-type of writing. I took on Herbert Hirsch, the author of "Learning to Obey," view and began to write about the genocide occurring in Rwanda, Africa. The two concepts that I applied in this assignment was the ideology of colonization and the three social processes that create these conditions. Also, I majorly emphasize on the genocide that occurs in Rwanda due to the attempt of colonization. |
| I wrote about the genocide in Rwanda as if I was there experiencing the Hutu's and the Tutsi's brutal controversy. I used references to Hirsch's work as well as two other authors, Azevedo and Cesaire. Referencing their work gave the reader, as well as me, the writer, a better understanding of what was going on my journals. This piece of work was a big deal for me because it helped me receive one of my best grades yet. I have grown tremendously as a writer because it allowed me to explore and write in a different, more complex way. |
| I know that this assignment was a type of paramount for me as a writer. It allowed me to be more creative than usual and to express my ideas in a way that wasn't normal for me. I find it a lot easier now to write more in depth and detail. If I ever struggle with an assignment, I know that by looking at the original author's point of view can help me see things more clearly. When I go back and look at this assignment I am reminded that I've become a stronger, more persuasive, analytical writer. I have also grown more as a writer because I see in my work how I can express myself in the way that I write and tell my stories. Whether it's reflecting, analyzing, evaluating or criticising, my qualities and characteristics of a writer shine through. |
