Remix Project
“When I heard the learn'd astronomer” by Walt Whitman
For my Remix Project I wanted to use text and images in a way that would allow the reader to easily visualize subjects of the given text. It was up to me to decide what kind of text to use that could be mixed with particular images. Countless ideas went through my head until I settled on the use of a poem.
Poems already allow the reader to create images in their mind upon their interpretation, however I wanted to make this easier by giving each line its own image and putting it together in the form of a video montage by using Windows Moviemaker. I used Creative Commons for all the images and the Internet Archive for the poem, “When I heard the learn'd astronomer” by Walt Whitman. As soon as I read this poem I knew it would be perfect for something like this. I wanted to give each line its own image, so it could tell the story of the poem and flow effortlessly. In terms of its progression from one image to the next, I felt that by having each image fade the transition would appear much smoother. Another key factor was the choice on font color on each image to make sure the text appeared readable.
Overall, I feel this project was a lot of fun as it gave us a lot of freedom; the possibilities of themes and topics seemed endless.
