Ann Madu's Biography
As a young girl in Nigeria,
West Africa, I aspired to study abroad.
In my family, education is regarded as a very important tool for life.
However, the educational system in my country does not compare to the educational
system in many western countries such as the United
States and Great
Britain, due to the constant strike by faculty
members. I understood that an education abroad will provide me with
the possibilities for qualitative learning, as well as offer insight into
cultures and customs of another country. After graduating from high school,
the opportunity to study abroad was presented to me, and I jumped on this
offer. I attended Montgomery
College in Takoma
Park, Maryland for my Associates
degree in Mental Health.
While I am very passionate about a career in Psychology, I am very
intrigued with the English language. During my last year at Montgomery
College, I became a certified
tutor for my peers in the English as a second language (ESL) classes.
I am currently attending George
Mason University
for a B.S. in Psychology. Since my enrollment in the summer
of 2002, I have written many documents, most in the field of English and
Psychology. I have written many research proposals and reports, data
analysis, and journal critiques.
I am very delighted to be a part of the Technical Reading
and Writing course this semester. This class has provided me with educational
and career tools that were not anticipated at the beginning of the semester.
Over the past two months, I have learned a variety of technical writing skills,
which ranged from writing various documents to editing and critiquing them.
Furthermore, this course has been most enlightening to me because it has
given me the knowledge and opportunity to create this website.
