Harold Gortner Distinguished Speakers in Public Administration Series

In honor of Professor Emeritus Harold Gortner, the Department of Public and International Affairs at George Mason University named this speaker series after him.

Dr. Gortner, a long time member of the facutly in the Department of Public Affairs at Mason, has taught in both the undergraduate and graduate public administration curriculum, notably in ethics and organizational management. He also developed unique courses such as the politics, arts and history undergraduate course he regularly co-taught with fellow PIA faculty member Melvin Friedlander and Rick Davis from the Center for the Arts. He is a former department chair, and served as interim chair of the Geography Department. He has also been active throughout his career with the faculty senate, university committees, and the MPA honor society. In May 2004, Dr. Gortner retired.
