Your name is Pardue. You once considered yourself a holy man, but your humble, pious life has gradually begun to drive you insane. You have set out in search of a new life where you plan to become a warrior or a sorcerer.

Forced to run from many monsters, you have traveled alone for weeks. Too weak to fight and too unskilled to use magic, you solemnly plan to turn back and live out the rest of your life chanting incantations. As you lie down beside the path for one last rest before you turn around, a beautiful enchantress finds and takes pity on you.

"What is your true desire?" she asks your sleeping form. In your exhaustion, her question goes unnoticed as you dream of fighting mystical monsters and achieving fame and glory.

The enchantress looks deep into your mind, but she only sees your inner confusion.  Do you want to be a warrior or a sorcerer? Strength or magic? Or would you rather just go home and live out the rest of your depressing days alone in a monastery?

"You poor creature," she sighs, "I cannot grant a wish that you yourself do not know..." She stares at you for a moment until her eyes suddenly light up, sparkling with a new spell. "But I can help you decide."

You awake before a giant maze with a map tucked into your robes. You unfold the paper to reveal several simple pathways from beginning to finish.

You grin. Whatever this puzzle is, it won't take long to solve. As you step toward the entrance, your ears begin to ring with a sweet voice. "Beware, kind priest, for this maze is more than it seems."

You jump back at the sound of a screeching monster somewhere within the walls.  As you listen, more screeches and wails and roars pierce through the stone. "I cannot do this," you cry as you turn to leave.

The enchantress continues, "But you can. I have given you strength and magic to help you on this quest. They will help you find what you seek."

"And what exactly is it I am seeking?" Skeptical, you push up the sleeve of your robe to reveal a massive bicep. "Wow...And how do I use my magic?"

"You will know when the time comes for the magic. As far as what you seek... You will know if you reach the end of this maze."

You gulp. "If?"

"There are many obstacles that lie ahead, all of which are deadly. I have faith in you, my good priest, but be careful. There are two types of monsters in this maze. The first can be killed only by magic. The second can be killed only by strength. It is up to you to choose which power will win each fight. When you reach the end, you will be granted your deepest desire. This maze will help you understand what that wish might be."

With solid confidence in your intellect, you once again step toward the entrance.

"There is one more thing I must warn you of." The enchantress herself seems uncertain, "This spell contains strong magic that often has a mind of its own. There may be a few surprises beyond my control. Whether they will be for better or for worse, I cannot tell."

You shrink away, unsure. "Please, tell me more, spirit, witch, whatever you may be." The ringing vanishes, and you are left alone before the maze howling with monsters.
