PRESENTATION
One of the important training methods employed in this class is that of Oral Presentations. You will be given an opportunity to make several individual and group presentations in front of the class. The last session(s) of the semester will be allocated for project presentations. Depending upon the time constraints each group will be alloted time slot to present their findings. Though you should choose your own presentation format/style, presentations will be evaluated on the following dimensions:
Organization : Introduction, Logical flow, Analytical Effort, Conclusions and Summary, etc.
Delivery : Intelligibility, Interest value; Originality/creativity.
Supporting materials : Use of visuals, graphs, charts or other materials to communicate.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How many people from my group can/should present?
Ans:- I strongly prefer that all members of the group should be given a chance to present. Specifically, class presentations should be considered as an opportunity for the relatively shy students to come out of their shyness / nervousness and stage fear.
Q. Do you require that we dress formally for presentations?
Ans:- In my opinion, your appearance accounts for a large percentage of your first impression. While I would want you to dress in clothes that you feel comfortable in, I suggest that you wear "presentable clothes". Usually business casual is the safest choice. This will include shirts, khakis/trousers for men and shirts, skirts/khakis/trousers for ladies. Wearing completely formal clothes is your group's decision.
Q. What medium of presentation should we use - is powerpoint presentations required? or can we just use transparencies?
Ans:- I prefer powerpoint presentations. They are a good practice for your work in the corporate world. Most of the classrooms are equipped with all the hardware and software necessary for a powerpoint presentation. However, we shall resolve this issue in class. Over the years, I have noticed that the powerpoint presentation files have become outrageously large (due to inclusion of pictures, graphs etc). I would suggest that you bring these files on a (recordable) CD.
Q. Can we use videos/music during our presentation?
Ans:- Most of our classrooms are equipped with VCRs and computers. You may use videos/music during the presentations so far as it is relevant to your topic and adds value to the presentation. You may note that use of videos/music during presentation may require considerably longer transition times. Remember alloted time for presentations is usually quite less. I will suggest you to focus on your analysis of the project. Choose the content of your presentation wisely. |
