The Future of The Artificial Heart
Medical-06

Beyond the current limitations of the artificial heart, the future may bear no limitations, due to a more efficient machine. The most vital idea for the artificial heart, in the near or far-term future is it being a safer device. It is expected to serve, just as the natural heart would. By this, it is meant that the artificial heart will have a survival record as impressive as the natural heart’s survival record. Concurrently, it will have a record of 70% of its patients’ survival lasting for five years (Lewis 209). There is already a vivid image of how effective and flawless the artificial heart will be. A set of criteria for the future artificial heart is constructed to ensure its future credibility.

“Criteria for these artificial hearts require that they be completely implantable with compact components and minimal dead space for ease of implantation and removal. Initial requirements for the entire system must have a high two-year electromechanical and biocompatible reliability (e.g. 80% reliability at a 95% confidence level) and must be physiologically responsive to the needs of the recipient. The patient should be able to resume an acceptable quality of life, with infrequent medical intervention, creating an autonomous livelihood out of the hospital. …Soft failures of the device should not endanger the life of the recipient autodiagnostic alarms should alert the recipient to the nature of the problem (Lewis 209).”

By the looks of the specific criteria for the artificial heart, of the future, it seems as though it will be very efficient.
