Welcome! Students will find extensive course materials for current and recent courses under Teaching and Learning.Check out the section under Telecom & Internet if you're interested in voice and data telecommunications issues. That section also covers Internet topics, from urban legends to spam, and encryption to surveillance. (Note that the information is now about 10 years old, so some of it is very out of date.) In recent years I've moved from teaching
"comm and tech" courses to more traditional communication subjects, including
interpersonal communication, intercultural communication, public speaking, and
communication theory.
Across all the sub-disciplines of communication, the
fundamental question for a practitioner is: what constitutes an effective message, considering
the audience you wish to reach and the communication channel you've chosen to use? Whether you're
considering interpersonal communication, mass communication, or public speaking, the principles of
effective message creation are similar. A web site isn't complete without
some personal information. Finn City contains info about me, my
family, friends, hobbies, and interests. I lead a pretty darned exciting
life, at least compared to the alternative! Check out the useful links
- from an array of great search engines to telecom links.
Isn't this Internet thing-a-ma-bob great? Somebody's going to make a lot
of money if this ever catches on! - Andy Finn Ignorance
more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge. Click on the link for FaCE, featuring information about, and access to,
segments of The Finner and Clark Expedition. Click on this link for the
slides of recent presentations I've
given around the VA-MD-DC area. |
