Performance inventory
Which scene or portion of scene are you discussing (give
act, scene and lines #s)?
Which production (give director, date and production company [e.g. BBC
or Miramax] of the film you are discussing)?
Instructions: Answer six out of seven
of the following questions. You need not answer the question with respect
to every moment of the scene (e.g. discussing how every character delivers
every line). Pick instead the most interesting or key moments relevant
to the particular question.
Actors' physical appearance? What kind of appearance did
the production pick for the characters in your scene? Why?
Costumes? What kind of costumes did the production pick? Why? What details
in the costumes do you note? Significance?
Props: What are some key props involved in the scene? What props (perhaps
not specified in the stage directions) has the production added? Why?
Setting (time, place, details): What setting did the production pick for
the play? Why? In addition to time and place, through what physical detail
has the setting been developed? Significance?
"Production Values": What notable music, lighting, film technique
or "special effects" does the production employ? Why was this
or were these chosen?
Blocking: How do the characters move and stand in relationship to one
another? Why was this blocking of the characters chosen? Does blocking
change at key moments in the scene? What in the script prompts the change?
What effect does it have?
Delivery of lines: In what tone is a set of lines delivered? What choice
was made with this tone? Are there moments in the delivery when tone distinctively
changes? What motivates the change? Were there surprises in the choices
an actor or actors made?
