R. Claire Snyder-Hall is Associate Professor of Government and Politics in Political Theory. She currently serves as the Director of the Masters of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies Program (MAIS), Director of Academics for the Higher Education Program (HEP), and Campus Coordinator for the Democracy Project (DP). Snyder is a Faculty Fellow at the Women and Politics Institute at American University, an Associate of the Kettering Foundation, and Associate Editor of the journal, New Political Science. Snyder's undergraduate and graduate teaching interests include the history of political thought, normative political theory, democratic citizenship, feminism, and the history of higher education. Her publications include Citizen-Soldiers and Manly Warriors: Military Service and Gender in the Civic Republican Tradition (1999), Gay Marriage and Democracy: Equality for All (2006), and a special issue of Hypatia on democratic thought (2007), which she co-edited. Her articles have appeared in Signs, Politics and Gender, PS, Polity, New Political Science, Armed Forces & Society, and Higher Education Exchange. She is currently writing a book on third-wave feminism. Snyder holds a Ph.D. from Rutgers University and a B.A. cum laude from Smith College.
