AFS Folklore and Creative Writing Section Convener Duties

Duties of the Senior Convener

-- Attend the breakfast meeting of all AFS Section Conveners at the AFS meeting and report back to the Section

-- Write agenda for the section meeting and send it to FOLKWRITERS list a week before the AFS meeting

-- Run the section meeting

-- Send drafts of minutes, agenda, and other section communications to the Junior Convener before sending final copy to section members

-- Prepare section annual report to AFS

 

Duties of Junior Convener

-- Attend the breakfast meeting of all AFS Section Conveners at the AFS meeting and report back to the section

-- Send drafts of section communications to the Senior Convener before sending final copy to section members

-- Take minutes at the section meeting, write up minutes, email to all on the FOLKWRITERS list as soon as possible after the AFS meeting, and send to the Editor of the AFS website so s/he can put it on the Folklore and Creative Writing Section page

-- Distribute an attendance sheet for names and email addresses at the section meeting. Give this list (or a copy of it) to Peggy Yocom who maintains the FOLKWRITERS listserve out of George Mason University

 

Other duties, to be divided between Senior and Junior Convener, as they decide

-- Update the Folklore and Creative Writing Section page at the AFS web site

-- Reserve a room for the section meeting when the AFS Call for Papers comes out

-- Be familiar with our treasury balance; check with the Assistant Director of AFS

-- Be familiar with the list of Section members; check with the Assistant Director of AFS. Maintain the list of “Members” and “Allies” biographies on the Section’s AFS website page, and call for new members and allies to submit theirs.

-- Send the names of the new Section Conveners to Tim Lloyd, Executive Director of AFS, immediately after the AFS meeting

-- Discuss our treasury and our financial plans with the section

-- Approve expenditures of the section’s funds; any expenditures over $200 need to be approved by an online vote of the membership.

-- Work with members of the section to sponsor panels, forums, and workshops of interest to section members; send call for proposals to the FOLKWRITERS listserv

-- Work with Peggy Yocom, liaison to Association of Writers and Writing Programs

-- Work for the good of the section
