Web Words

Part 5: Words as Links

a) Beware of meaningless links in menus or in text such as:

      • Next
      • Previous
      • Up
      • See Also

b) If you want to embed links in your text, use the link to add emphasis:-

  • put links towards the end of the sentence/paragraph/page because:-
      • you want individuals to read your sentence/paragraph/page
      • the final item in a sentence/paragraph/page often seems most significant
  • open your link in a new window so that your user can return to the point of origin easily

  Part 6: Exercise
In pairs, and applying the guidelines in the Web Words presentation, rewrite Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address for a specific web audience of your choice.
