Formatting Word for Documentary Video

The quickest, and most consistent way to create the two-column format is to insert a three-column table, with invisible borders, onto the page.

The central column should be very narrow, providing a gutter between the text on the left and the text on the right.

  To do this in Word:-

a) Click the Table menu at the top of the page, click Insert and then click Table.

b) In the dialogue box that opens, set the number of columns to 3 (three) and the number of rows to 1 (one). Click OK. The 3-column, 1-row table should appear on your page.

c) Click on Table, then click on Table Properties. Click Borders and Shading at the bottom of the dialogue box. Click the Borders tab (if it is not already open) and click the icon for None in the Setting column. Click OK in both dialogue boxes. The borders of your table should now have turned pale grey.

d) Now hold the cursor over the left-hand border of the central column until it turns to a double-pointed arrow. Slide the line to the right until it is at 2.75 inches on the ruler bar.

Hold the cursor over the right-hand border of the central column and slide it until it is at 3 inches on the ruler bar.

Your table should now display two wide columns (that on the right slightly wider than that on the left) with a narrow column separating them. You are now ready to write your two-column script.
