Particular Applications of Sex to Repellent Subjects

• When it comes to sex the sanctity of marriage and the home needs to be carefully handled. This matter must not be treated in a way that shows sympathy against marriage. Scenes of passion must be honest to human nature but cannot arouse dangerous emotions on the part of the immature, young, or criminal.

• When it comes to love that is not accepted within the bounds of the society cannot be displayed as attractive nor a joke. It must mainly not be shown at all. Vulgarity, obscenity, and profanity must be followed as is detailed in the Code. These must follow the moral obligations as stated in the preamble to the Code.

• Costume cannot contain full nudity; however, semi-nudity cannot be used just for entertainment value in a film. Transparent materials are stated to be even more suggestive than actual nudity.

• Dance must not represent sexual actions, and those that include movements of the breasts or excessive body movements while the feet are stationary violate decency.

• Religion must not be portrayed as comic because this may lower the audiences respect for ministers and religions.

• Certain places associated with sexual life or sin should be limited carefully.

• Nations must be treated with respect and titles of brands must conform to the ethical practice of the titling.

• Finally, repellant subjects that are necessary for the plot must never offend good taste or injure the sensibilities of the audience.

Concerning Impure Love:

2. It must not be the subject of comedy or farce, or treated as material for laughter.

The relationship between Poppy and Tony is what I consider impure love. She is already involved with Tonys former boss Lovo, and there are even hints that she might be a prostitute. So, when Poppy and Tony enter into the courting process, this is considering impure love. Their humorous exchanges are the center for much of the Comedy in Scarface, breaking the particular application of It must not be the subject of comedy or farce, or treated as material for laughter.

3. It must not be presented in such a way as to arouse passion or morbid curiosity on the part of the audience.

The scenes between Tonys sister Cesca and himself do not arouse passion. The scenes do however; stir the morbid curiosity of the audience. Impure relationships like incest, bestiality and the like, while generally unaccepted in society, do interest the public. The forbidden nature of these relationships causes much interest, even without the person interested condoning or engaging this type of impure relationship.

Vulgarity, obscenity, profanity; hardly need further explanation than is contained in the code.

Scarface was a movie about gangsters, people in walk on the other side of the law. A long with the typically criminal activities committed, most all of the gangster choose to live their daily also much different from the average person. In the vernacular of a gangster as compared to a normal citizen, much more vulgarity, obscenity, and profanity was used. When Tony was canoodling with women, he often doused in language in perverse sexual innuendo and vulgar remarks. This is obviously against the code.

VI Costume

1. The effect of nudity of semi-nudity upon the normal man or woman and much more upon the young and immature person, has been honestly recognized by all lawmakers and moralists.

Many times in the movie Scarface we seen women scantily clad. Whether it be Poppy, in the home of man she in married to (*gasp*), or Cesca trying to win the heart of Rinaldo.

2. Hence the fact that the nude of semi-nude body may be beautiful does not make its use in the films moral. For, in addition to its beauty, the effect of the nude of semi-nude body on the normal individual must be taken into consideration.

When one of the many ladies in the movie is trying to seduce a man, she often uses her body to lure him into a relationship. This is in effect saying the body is beauty, breaking the code.

VII: Dances

Dancing in general is recognized as Art and as a beautiful from of expressing human emotions.

But dances which suggest or represent sexual actions, whether preformed solo or with two or more, dances intended to excite the emotional reaction of an audience, dances with movement of the breasts, excessive body movements while the feet are stationary, violate decency and are wrong.

The party scenes in Scarface contain much of the aforementioned dancing styles. Sexual provocative dancing including all the excessive body movements they could possible fit.

X. National Feeling

The just righted, history, and feelings of any nation are entitled to consideration and respectful treatment.

The Italian stereotype portrayed in the movie Scarface is one of a nation of ill educated and thuggish people. Even though Tony Comante himself rises to the top of his profession, he is still shown to have many characteristics of the lower class of society.
