Research Opportunities
Research is an important part of graduate training for the M.S. and Ph.D degrees. Students should begin discussions with their advisors shortly after their admission to ESP about how they can become involved in ongoing ESP research.
What Does Graduate Research Involve?
Graduate research involves the collection, analysis, and interpretation of original data, to be presented to the graduate faculty in the form of a project, thesis, or dissertation depending on the degree. Data may be generated from laboratory, field, or policy research, or some combination of the three.
Admission to the graduate program in ESP requires that a student identify a professor willing to serve as the student’s advisor. Information about faculty research interests can be found on the ESP webpage and students should contact relevant faculty about the possibility of advising, and potential thesis or dissertation research projects. Once students secure their graduate advisor, they are expected to work closely with their advisor in ongoing research.
