Edward Gero

Edward Gero has been teaching at George Mason University since 1990.  He teaches a wide variety of courses from Beginning Acting to Characterization, Acting Shakespeare, Verse Speaking, Script Analysis, Chekov-Ibsen-Shaw, and many others.

For 20 years, he has been a company member of the nationally known Shakespeare Theatre in downtown Washington, appearing in over 55 productions there.   He appears at many others area theatres including George Mason's own Theatre of the First Amendment , The Studio Theatre, Round House Theatre, Olney Theatre Center.   He can  also be heard narrating on The Discovery Channel.

He is a  ten time nominee and four time recipient of the prestigious  Helen Hayes Award   for his work in Shakespeare, contemporary and musical theatre.   Below you can find his  C.V., current course offerings,  syllabi and other   links to reviews, publications and intersting articles.

THR 496-001 Text in Production

Designed to bring together teams of student directors, designers, drammaturgs and performers, the class will focus on the particular problems of producing the Shakespearean text.  Students will hear practicing professional directors, designers, drammaturgs and performers from the Washington theatre community share their insights and experiences with mounting productions.  The students  will  apply those insights and techniques in colloborative team workshop scene presentations from Measure for Measure.
