For the first essay, I want you to reflect upon your own experiences with the use and re-use of other people's materials. I'm not asking about plagiarism or illegal file downloads, but rather the kinds of use and re-use we may take for granted: recording a television show for later viewing, making a mix CD, researching a paper for a class.
Consider which uses you consider "fair" (not just in the legal sense), and explain why.
Also consider the uses you think are unfair.
Lastly, consider how you would want you own work used.
The paper should be 3-5 pages, double-spaced. If you use readings from our textbook, simply mention the author in the text. Outside readings are not required, but if used should be cited.
