Current Research

Tupac Shakur and Rationality (this will be an extension of a paper I wrote entitled: Rationality and the Afrikan-American Male: An Exploratory Analysis from the 1930s to Present ) [presented at the 2002 National Conference of the Association of African-American Studies] [see my Tupac web-page]

Authenticity and Hip-Hop -- this paper will investigate the role (if any) of veracity and authenticity in Hip-Hop. If Hip-Hop is to be seen as the reclamation of the Black mlae voice, where do the fictional tales come from? Shoudl we hold artists to a higher standard? The lyrics of Biggie Smalls and Tuipac Shakur will be highlighted.

The Coopting of Hip-Hop -- This paper delves into how corporatism has infiltrated Hip-Hop and the negative effect it his had on the culture.

Research Papers

Semantic-Neural Method (6/99) -- Click here to view my paper on the Semantic-Neural Method I wrote this paper in 1998. It formed the basis for An Approach to Quantitative Non-Functional Requirements.

Human Factors and CDM (5/01)-- The Collaborative Decision Making (CDM) paradigm has been embraced by the FAA. The company I work for, Metron, has a big role in this. Our software, Flight Schedule Monitor (FSM), is the main information-sharing tool used to keep the airlines and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in sync with current events. As part of a Human Factors Engineering course with Dr. Adelman , I analyzed FSM versus human factors principles. My presentation can be viewed using MS Powerpoint.

Agents and Route Utilization (12/00) -- I am taking a graduate (the first in my Doctoral Program) course in Air Transportation at GMU. My project for the semester will examine the use of agents to model an approach to increase route utilization in the National Airspace System (NAS). Click here to view my papers on this topic.

The Lyrics of Tupac Shakur (7/01) -- A 1 credit Independent Study for Prof. Jeffrey Stewart of the African-American Studies department at George Mason University. This is the first of a two part effort looking at the lyrics on his first three albums. Read my proposal. for this endeavor. [see my Tupac web-page]. This paper was eventually published in the Journal of Rap and Hip Hop Culture

Group Decision Making (10/01) -- This paper was the result of an independent study I did with Dr. Schum at GMU. It looked at group decision making in the FAA from a theoretical point of view. Topics discussed include pareto optimality, bayesian inference, and social welfare functions. Here is the full paper: Optimizing Group Utility in the Collaborative Decision Making Process

Knowledge Management and the FAA (12/01) -- This paper is for a Knowledge Managament course I'm taking at GWU. I am going to examine ways to turn data into information and information into knowledge using the FAA's Collaborative Decision Making paradigm. Here is the proposal. Here is the final paper.

Heuristics Explored: With Examples from Traffic Flow Management (5/02) -- This paper examines the use of huerists in air traffic management. It was written during a course on Knowledge Discovery taught by my favorite professor, Dr. Schum. Here is the final report.
