COURSE DESCRIPTION:

We will explore the world of Native America through readings, videos, the internet and discussions, plus a special guest appearance lecture and demonstration

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

You will practice your reading, listening, speaking and writing skills while exploring the world of Native America.   You will take notes from listening and reading activities and use these notes to write integrated essays on different aspects of Native American Culture.   You will also choose a particular tribe or famous Native American person to research.   At the end of the semester you will make a 5-10 minute oral presentation based on this research.


<>COURSE EXPECTATIONS:
You are expected to come to class on time with all your assignments completed and to participate actively in the class.   If you are more than 10 minutes late to class on 3 occasions, you will be marked absent.  If you miss more than 3 classes, you will get NG for the class.   If you are absent from class, it is your responsibility to catch up the work you have missed.   Cell phones must be turned OFF during class.

<>GRADING CRITERIA:
The course grade will be based on:  quizzes 20%, note-taking exercises 20%, writing activities 20%, presentations 20%, and  final exam 20%.  
Final Grades:  A=90-100, B=80-89, C=70-79, NG=0-69 or more than 3 absences.  Final Exams:  The final exam will take place in class on Monday the 28th of July.
